I Have a Dream’s approach is unique in that they sponsor an entire grade level of 50-100 students at a Miami Dade Public School in a distressed neighborhood, and work with these “Dreamers” from early elementary school all the way through high school. Upon high school graduation, each Dreamer receives a guaranteed tuition of up to $3,000 per year for four years at a Florida state university or accredited vocational school.
The Miami chapter was founded in 1995 by Stephanie and Jules Trump (no relation to Donald Trump). The foundation adopted the entire second grade class (97 Dreamers) at the Charles R. Drew School in Liberty City. 95 Dreamers reached the twelfth grade, 83 of them graduated in 2005 on time and, 54 graduated college and several are currently enrolled in higher education. In August of 2007, the I Have a Dream Foundation adopted a new class of Dreamers at Hibiscus Elementary School; the class of 2020. All of these children have been promised the same opportunities as the class of 2005 and currently the new class of Dreamers are enrolled at Dr. Michael M Krop High School in Miami.
I Have a Dream is committed to ensuring that these Dreamers have the opportunity to pursue higher education, capitalize on their talents and aspirations so they may have fulfilling careers and become proud and productive citizens.
Make a Contribution
Each year South Florida philanthropists are invited to an evening in celebration of making dreams come true as Stephanie, Jules and Eddie Trump of Acqualina Resort & Spa on the Beach host the annual I Have a Dream Foundation Miami Gala. The I Have a Dream Foundation Miami invites South Florida to continue to support the cause of the Dreamers as they continue to invest in the future of the community, by turning despair into dreams and obstacles into opportunities.
