Why Florida Is the Perfect Destination for a Winter Getaway

In many parts of the country, winter is here. And with it comes snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. The winter “blahs” usually aren’t far behind. It’s no wonder that so many of us begin dreaming of warmer temperatures when the cold creeps in.

Not to worry, though. Florida has long been a favorite snowbird escape — a warm-weather paradise filled with white-sand beaches, gently swaying palm trees, and lots of warm sun.

Looking to make a getaway this winter? Here are some great reasons to spend a Florida winter vacation here when the chill sets in at home.

We’re the “Sunshine State”

Florida officially adopted the nickname of “The Sunshine State” in 1970, but we’ve been known as a warm, sunny destination since time out of mind. Thanks to our tropical latitude, we’re one of the only states in the union that can be reliably counted upon to enjoy summer-like temperatures year round. So while much of the country is shoveling snow, we’re shoveling sand to make sandcastles.

Beautiful Beaches

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), Florida ranks as the #2 state in the U.S. for most shoreline, with 8,436 miles of beaches. Only Alaska has more, but they can’t beat us on temperature! And having so much beach means spectacular swimming, boating, fishing, and opportunities to kick back on a lounger and soak up some sun — even during the months where you’d be risking frostbite anywhere else.

Endless History

Florida’s story includes being home to the oldest settled city in the United States (St. Augustine, which was first settled in 1565). In fact, visitors and explorers have been coming to Florida for even longer than that. As a result, the state is dotted with fascinating historical and archaeological treasures, from Ponce de León’s landings to the Castillo de San Marcos fortress to sites right in our own Miami backyard (such as The Barnacle Historic State Park and the Ancient Spanish Monastery).

Fantastic Food

Thanks to Florida’s melting pot of cultures, the state has gained a well-earned reputation for being a gourmet’s playground. No matter what kind of dining experience you’re looking for, you’ll find some of the best examples of it here. Romantic beach dinners? You bet. Every kind of world cuisine imaginable? Absolutely. Some of the freshest seafood you’ll find anywhere? Of course. We’ve even attracted some big-name celebrity chefs in recent years. And the best part is, you’ll find alfresco dining just about everywhere — even in the winter — due to our famously mild temperatures.

Incredible Activities

There’s always something amazing going on in Florida. Miami’s nightlife, Orlando’s theme parks, Everglades adventures, nature hikes, and even day trips to the Keys — you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to fantastic stuff to get up to here. Florida is truly a state that has something for everyone, so there’s never a dull moment no matter where your interests lie.

We hope you’ll visit Acqualina Spa Resort in sunny Florida this winter. We’re ready to give you the experience of a lifetime!
