Going Green

By David Kaufman

Protecting the natural environments forms the foundation of everything that Acqualina does – everything Acqualina holds dear. The beach, the sea, the resort’s animals and plant life are not merely backdrops for guests’ enjoyment and pleasure, but a thriving and vital ecosystem that demands respect and care. This is why Acqualina is so proud to have been awarded a pair of prestigious eco-focused accolades, Green Key Certification from the Foundation of Environmental Education and Sustainability Leader-status by the Leading Hotels of the World.

The Green Key designation is awarded by Green Key Global, the world’s leading “green” certification association for hotels and resorts that commit  —and adhere to — best in class sustainability efforts. The designation not only recognizes the environmental impacts of such efforts, but also how they can help improve property efficiency and the bottom line.  Green Key helps demonstrate that world-class resorts like Acqualina can do well – while always doing good.

The Sustainability Leader designation awarded by the Leading Hotels of the World shares a similar commitment to protecting Acqualina’s environment. This Leadership status is embodied in the resort’s Green Team, which actively strives to uphold the three Leadership pillars – environment, community and culture. Acqualina maintains a clearly-articulated sustainability management plan – as well as a commitment to putting that plan into action.

Throughout every eco-effort at Acqualina, the resort partners with local agencies such as the Miami Dade County Sea Turtle program, which helps nesting regional sea turtles throughout their life cycles. The resort also organizes regular beach clean-up drives to further maintain the property’s most notable asset – its sheer physical beauty.
