ACQUALINA RESORT AWARDED GREEN KEY GLOBAL CERTIFICATION AND RECOGNIZED AS A SUSTAINABILITY LEADER

Miami, February 20, 2024 – Acqualina Resort, located in Miami’s Sunny Isles Beach, is proud to announce its recent achievement of the Green Key Global Certification, North America’s sustainability certification for the hospitality industry. Acqualina has also been recognized as a Sustainability Leader by The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), an exclusive collection of rigorously vetted Leading Hotels.  These designations align with the criteria outlined by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and serve as a testament to Acqualina’s commitment to excellence in hospitality, specifically in the areas of community, culture, and environmental responsibility.

“We are immensely proud to receive the Green Key Global Certification and be recognized as a Sustainability Leader by LHW,” said Deborah Yager Fleming, CEO & Partner of Acqualina Resort. “We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and fostering a more eco-conscious future.”

As a Sustainability Leader, Acqualina actively maintains a sustainability management plan and demonstrates a commitment through actions and impact towards the three pillars of: environment, community, and culture. The Green Team at Acqualina embodies the resort’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.

Acqualina proudly engages in meaningful partnerships, such as with the Miami-Dade County Sea Turtle Program, to support sea turtle conservation programs.  The hotel team members participate in regular beach clean-ups to preserve the natural beauty of the Miami coastline. The resort also spearheads annual Food Drives for the Broward Outreach Center and Toy Drives benefiting the children at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Since 1995, Acqualina has been deeply involved in uplifting the community by founding the Miami Chapter of the I Have a Dream Foundation, dedicated to empowering children from underprivileged backgrounds by equipping them with the essential skills, knowledge and mindset required to pursue higher education.

About the GSTC
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) establishes and manages global sustainable standards, known as the GSTC Criteria. There are two sets: Destination Criteria for public policy-makers and destination managers, and Industry Criteria for hotels and tour operators. These are the guiding principles and minimum requirements that any tourism business or destination should aspire to reach in order to protect and sustain the world’s natural and cultural resources, while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for conservation and poverty alleviation. The GSTC Criteria form the foundation for GSTC’s role as the global Accreditation Body for Certification Programs that certify hotels/accommodations, tour operators, and destinations as having sustainable policies and practices in place. GSTC does not directly certify any products or services; but it accredits those that do. The GSTC is an independent and neutral USA-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that represents a diverse and global membership, including UN agencies, NGO’s, national and provincial governments, leading travel companies, hotels, tour operators, individuals and communities – all striving to achieve best practices in sustainable tourism.
